A simple tissue box holder can be made from sturdy cardboard, decorative paper, and a little glue. It hides a plain box while keeping tissues easy to grab. Before you start, choose a location—such as a desk, nightstand, or countertop—and measure the tissue box you plan to cover.
You’ll need a ruler, pencil, scissors or a craft knife, sturdy cardboard, craft glue or double-sided tape, and wrapping paper or fabric. Keep the original tissue box nearby as a size guide. If using a craft knife, cut on a protected surface and handle it carefully.
Measure the box’s length, width, and height. Cut four cardboard panels for the sides, adding about a quarter inch to each inside measurement so the box can slide in and out. Cut a fifth piece for the top. Make the top panel large enough to cover the opening area, then mark an oval or rounded rectangle over the tissue slot. The opening should be slightly longer and wider than the slot in the tissue box, so tissues can pull through without catching.
Arrange the four side panels around the tissue box to check the fit. Glue or tape the panel edges together, keeping the bottom open so you can replace the tissue box. Attach the top panel, then carefully cut out the marked tissue opening. Test the holder with the box inside before decorating; trim the opening if tissues snag.
Cover the outside with wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, or fabric. Fold the covering neatly over the edges and secure it with glue or tape. Let everything dry fully before putting the holder into use. For fabric, use a thin, nonstretch material that lies flat and won’t obstruct the opening.
Add a strip of felt or nonslip shelf liner underneath if the holder moves around. Attach small pieces of nonslip shelf liner or felt to the holder’s bottom corners. Make sure the surface and the holder’s base are clean and dry first.
